Beauty Sex Loss Courage Politics It’s the 1980s and seemingly healthy, gay men are suddenly developing Kaposi Sarcoma at an alarming rate. It doesn’t take long before the American government labels the outbreak as GRID (Gay-Related Immune Deficiency) and ignores the increasing deaths of those affected by the virus. We now know this is the beginning of the AIDS epidemic that swept the nation.

Art AIDS America Chicago underscores the deep and unforgettable presence of HIV in American art by introducing and exploring the spectrum of artistic responses to the AIDS epidemic, from the politically outspoken to the quietly mournful, surveying works from the early 1980s to the present. Art AIDS America Chicago is free and on display at the Alphawood Gallery (2401 N Halsted St) from December 1, 2016-April 2, 2017. Experience the profound, eye-opening exhibition. Visit Art AIDS America Chicago for details.

Art AIDS America Chicago is presented locally by the Alphawood Foundation, a Chicago-based, private foundation that is a benefactor to many organizations, including Equality Illinois.
