CHICAGO- After a press conference was disrupted on March 28, 2022, the statewide coalition of LGBTQ+ and allied organizations refuse to be silenced or intimidated. They are reclaiming their space and voice by holding a rally and press conference against bigotry and hate in Illinois on April 27, 2022 in Federal Plaza, 219 S. Dearborn St., at 5:30 p.m.

The past few months have been extremely difficult for the LGBTQ+ community, due to a wave of more than 240 anti-queer and anti-trans bills filed across the country as well as anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, discrimination, and attacks.

In light of this snowball of issues targeting the LGBTQ+ community, a statewide coalition of organizations partnered for a rally to support trans and queer communities on March 28, 2022, at Federal Plaza in Chicago. Unfortunately, the rally was hijacked by aggressive disruptors who forcibly pushed their way through the rally, with bullhorns and bullet proof vests, yelling over the voices of the LGBTQ+ community members, particularly Black trans women. They barreled through community leaders, pushing aside anyone who stood in their way, including an 80-year-old trans woman who was there to support LGBTQ+ youth. There is no justification for their actions or any other group that uses intimidation and violence to silence and harm any community.
