2025 Legislative Agenda

(list current as 4-22-25)

Equality Illinois is leading or co-leading the following initiatives:

Keeping Sex Workers Safe Act

HB 3518 (State Rep. Will Guzzardi)
SB 2391 (Sen. Celina Villanueva)

Help keep sex workers safe by supporting the full decriminalization of sex work between consenting adults. Decriminalization ensures that the government stays out of decisions between consenting adults. It also improves current and former sex workers’ access to housing, education, healthcare, and employment.

Equality for Every Family Act

HR 2683 (State Rep. Tracy Katz Muhl)
SB 2507 (Sen. Don Harmon)

The Equality for Every Family Act ensures legal equality, protection, and security for all children, particularly those born through assisted reproduction and surrogacy.

Health Care Transparency Act

HB 2904 (State Rep. Dagmara Avelar)
SB 1679 (Sen. Omar Aquino)

No one should spend time, money, and emotional energy seeking health care only to be unexpectedly turned away by hospitals. This legislation would require hospitals to disclose to patients the LGBTQ+ care, reproductive care, and end-of -life care services they do not provide for non-medical reasons. Patients across Illinois would be empowered to better make decisions about where to seek health care because they would have access to information about the services that hospitals refuse to provide.

2025 LGBTQ+ Advocacy Day

Join us for Equality Illinois' LGBTQ+ Advocacy Day on May 8, 2025 in Springfield, Illinois at the State Capitol. At a time when our LGBTQ+ rights are being rolled back all across the country, it is crucial that we double down, and continue the fight for our rights here in Illinois, and let our legislators know that LGBTQ+ voices matter!

Equality Illinois supports the work of our partners:

  • HB 1083 - Gender neutral language in real estate statutes
  • HB 1154 - Strengthen remedies in the Illinois Human Rights Act
  • HB 1328 - Medical aid in dying
  • HB 1429 - Stopping criminalization of people experiencing homelessness

  • HB 3247 and SB 2065 is an initiative of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and MALDEF to ensure parents are not discouraged from sending and children are not discouraged from attending schools, as is their right. No child may be denied a free public education based on the child's perceived or actual immigration status or the child's parent's or guardian's perceived or actual citizenship or immigration status.
  • HB 3628 Amendment 1 would provide critical funding to expand access to HIV prevention, care, and housing across Illinois (consistent with the state's Getting to Zero initiative)
  • SB 594 Amendment 1 would statutorily protect LGBTQ+ people and others from being involuntarily required to undergo medical treatment because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, consensual sexual activity, or living circumstances.
  • HR 221 - Celebrates the Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31st
