CHICAGO–Equality Illinois is excited to announce Fahrenheit Chicago, the end-of-summer beach party of fun, music, and social networking for LGBTQ Illinoisans, their friends, and families. The free event, which will focus on public health awareness and civic engagement, takes place at 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, at Oakwood Beach (41st Street and South Lake Shore Drive), in Chicago. The presenting sponsor is Howard Brown Health.
Fahrenheit Chicago will showcase national recording artists Terisa Griffin and TINK. Additional music will be curated by Darryl Garcon, Sean Parks, Lori Branch, Superman, Dreea, and All The Way Kay.
Civic engagement opportunities, including voter registration, and free health screenings will be offered for attendees as they enjoy camaraderie amidst barbecues and music on Chicago’s fabulous lakefront and newest beach.
“Fahrenheit Chicago will celebrate and highlight the diversity within the LGBTQ community. We bring this event to the South Side and invite people from all over the region to join us after our successful debut last year. We hope to make this a tradition for our community for years to come,” said Anthony Galloway, Director of Civic Engagement at Equality Illinois, the state’s LGBTQ civil rights organization.
Serette King, Associate Director of Community Engagement for Howard Brown Health, said that the partnership with Equality Illinois is a great opportunity for health services and civic engagement to be synchronized. “While we will be encouraging festival goers to participate in health screenings and civic engagement activities, we are so excited to highlight all of the talent in the community.”
Free health screenings at Fahrenheit Chicago will be coordinated by Howard Brown Health. The beach party is also supported by AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Breakthru Beverage, MillerCoors, Chicago and Illinois Departments of Public Health, Cook County Health and Hospitals System (Austin CBC, Stroger Adolescent Health and Ruth M.
