Commissioner Kevin B. Morrison
Cook County Board – 15 th District

Kevin Morrison is proud to be serving his second term as Cook County Commissioner in the 15th District. The district includes the Townships of Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, and Schaumburg, as well as parts of Palatine and Maine Townships.

Kevin’s priorities include improving access to critical health care services such as mental health services, supporting small business development, and pushing for a more fair and transparent home assessment process. As the first openly LGBTQ+ Commissioner on the Cook County Board, he has been a leading voice for equity and inclusion, working to ensure that all residents are protected and represented. During his time in office, Commissioner Morrison has championed and passed key legislation advancing LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion in Cook County government. He led efforts to strengthen protections under the County’s Human Rights Ordinance to ensure LGBTQ+ residents are explicitly protected from discrimination, adding gender identity as a protected class. He also sponsored and passed the Gender Inclusive Forms and Documents Ordinance, ensuring that official County documents reflect and respect residents’ gender identities.

Commissioner Morrison has Chaired the LGBTQ Affinity group for NACo (National Association of Counties) since 2023, and served on the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund Board from 2019-2024. Raised in Elk Grove Village, Kevin attended Link, Mead, and Conant High School. He went on to graduate from DePaul University, studying Political Science, Environmental Science, and LGBTQ Studies. He recently earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law and passed the Illinois Bar Exam.

Prior to his election, Kevin acquired years of public service experience with different candidates and elected officials, even progressing into a leadership role on a presidential campaign. He helped resolve constituent issues, perform community outreach, and excelled at bringing people together around a common cause. In 2017, he organized a Transgender Rights Rally in Chicago on North Halsted in the wake of the first Trump Administration’s attacks on the community. Kevin’s grandparents were Italian immigrants who realized the American Dream, and the restaurant his family built recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. He lives near his family and cherishes their close relationships; especially his nephews and niece.
